Nowadays you get three types of spoons:
• metal spoon which is similar to a teaspoon.
• Chinese soup spoon and Japanese spoons - mostly ceramic and has a Chinese soup spoon shape.
• ladle is a large soup spoon with a straight handle for serving.

Unlike their metal counterparts that conduct heat well, the surfaces of porcelain spoons stay cooler, which prevents scorching, when it comes into contact with hot soups, such as Miso or Osuimono.

If you have wooden spoon, you should wash it after use without soap and then pat it dry and hang it in a cool dry place to ensure it does not crack or split. For your ceramic spoons and porcelain spoons, you can use the dishwasher or wash it by hand and then dry it on a dish rack.
