Bamboo skewers are thought to have originated in Japan where they were used to cook things over an open fire like eel, beef, or chicken. Soak the skewers in water for a half an hour or more, add meat or vegetables and grill. Soaking the skewers doesn’t completely prevent the skewers from burning but does slow the process down.
