Back Scratchers

A back scratcher is a great tool to use to scratch an unreachable part of your body. I am sure you must been frustrated many times when you have had an itch and could reach not that part of the body with your hand. In Japanese a back scratcher is called ‘magonote’ which means a ‘grandchild’s hand’.

In Chinese history, there has been evidence to show that the Chinese Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty (580 to 618 A.D) owned a jade back scratcher carved like a piece of bamboo. This backscratcher has a plaque shaped in the Chinese traditional cloud pattern instead of the usual and most common hand shaped back scratcher. Courtiers in Europe who wore powdered wigs and elaborate costumes during the 18th and 19th century resorted to decorative back scratchers to reach their itches in a subtle and dignified manner.
